RNC Chief Reince Priebus Demands Biden Apologize For Calling Tea Partiers “Terrorists”…

What’s the big deal? If Cheney called Dems “terrorists” I’m sure nobody (especially the MSM) would have a problem.

(Twitter Room) — Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Vice President Biden should apologize for reportedly calling Tea Party members “terrorists.” Biden is said to have made the remarks Monday during a closed-door meeting with Democrats on Capitol Hill.

Report: Obama Lacks Presidential Skills – “A Plumber Would Be More Qualified” Than Obama

Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, July 31, 2011, 11:52 PM

If there’s one thing the debt crisis uncovered, it’s that Obama makes an awful leader. The media is even admitting that a plumber would have better skills to lead the country than Obama.

Yeah, we’ve noticed that.

Via US News and World Report and Free Republic:

As the negotiations and the vote-getting on raising the debt ceiling have dragged on these last two weeks, it’s became clear that President Obama really is not a good negotiator. Several times, just as a deal seemed imminent, the discussions have collapsed—and very publicly. There were leaks from the administration, he-said-she-said accounts from both sides, angry White House press conferences—just a “parade of horribles,” as lawyers would call it. The result is a rising tide of public disgust and frustration. Not only has he lost bipartisan support in both the House or the Senate, his lack of ability to persuade people to join his cause has cost President Obama the vital center of the electorate.

According to yesterday’s Pew Research national survey, with results collected just this week, only 31 percent of independent voters want to see Obama re-elected, down from 42 percent in May. Two months ago, Obama held a 7 point lead among independent registered voters two months ago, but independent support has swung 15 points the other way, giving an 8 point advantage to a generic Republican. “This is consistent with a drop in Obama’s approval among all independents. Currently, a majority (54 percent) disapprove of Obama’s performance for the first time in his presidency,” according to Pew. [Check out our editorial cartoons on President Obama.]

Maybe it’s because Hillary Clinton’s “three in the morning” ad was right—maybe he just doesn’t have the experience to be president. Of the top 100 jobs that would qualify one to be president, being a law professor isn’t one of them. A plumber would be better qualified than a law professor. Seriously—a plumber is a problem solver who has to keep customers happy. A used car salesman knows how to close a deal. A UPS deliveryman knows how to meet a deadline. A diplomat knows how to be, well, diplomatic. Meaning he doesn’t lecture people about “eating their peas” when he needs them to jump on board.

To be fair, he didn’t make a good law professor either. He was reportedly lazy, unqualified and skipped meetings.

Boehner Holds Call With House Republicans: Declares Victory

Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, July 31, 2011, 8:15 PM

Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Va., Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-N.C., and Boehner, and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy of Calif. (AP/Susan Walsh)

Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) held a conference call with House members tonight after the president delivered his remarks on the debt deal. Here is what Boehner told the House Republicans.
David Weigel at Slate reported:

The press has been filled with reports all day about an agreement. There’s no agreement until we’ve talked to you. There is a framework in place that would cut spending by a larger amount than we raise the debt limit, and cap future spending to limit the growth of government. It would do so without any job-killing tax hikes. And it would also guarantee the American people the vote they have been denied in both chambers on a balanced budget amendment, while creating, I think, some new incentives for past opponents of a BBA to support it.

My hope would be to file it and have it on the floor as soon as possible. I realize that’s not ideal, and I apologize for it. But after I go through it, you’ll realize it’s pretty much the framework we’ve been operating in.

Since Day One of this Congress, we’ve gone toe-to-toe with the Obama Administration and the Democrat-controlled Senate on behalf of our people we were sent here to represent.

Remember how this all started: the White House demanded a “clean” debt limit hike with no spending cuts and reforms attached. We stuck together, and frankly made them give up on that.

Then they shifted to demanding a “balanced” approach – equal parts spending cuts and tax hikes. With this framework, they’ve given up on that, too.

I’m gonna tell you, this has been a long battle – we’ve fought valiantly – and frankly we’ve done it by listening to the American people. And as a result, our framework is now on the table that will end this crisis in a manner that meets our principles of smaller government.

Now listen, this isn’t the greatest deal in the world. But it shows how much we’ve changed the terms of the debate in this town.

There is nothing in this framework that violates our principles. It’s all spending cuts. The White House bid to raise taxes has been shut down. And as I vowed back in May – when everyone thought I was crazy for saying it – every dollar of debt limit increase will be matched by more than a dollar of spending cuts. And in doing this, we’ve stopping a job-killing national default that none of us wanted.

Leader of Black Socialist Caucus Says Debt Deal Is a “A Sugar-Coated Satan Sandwich” …Update: Sugar-Coated Sandwich Contest

Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, July 31, 2011, 7:10 PM

This sounds like good news…
The leader of the Black Socialist Caucus says the debt deal is a “sugar-coated Satan sandwich.” That must mean it is a much better deal than we had hoped for.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver is the current leader of the Black Caucus (without black Republican members)

Roll Call reported:

President Barack Obama’s rightward lurch to reach a $3 trillion deficit reduction deal with no guarantee of additional revenues had liberals fuming and Republicans all but declaring victory Sunday afternoon.

With time running out to reach an agreement to raise the debt ceiling before Tuesday’s default deadline, Obama moved dramatically in the direction of the GOP, according to Senators and aides in both parties…

…Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said early reports of the new deal appeared to be “a sugar-coated Satan sandwich.” The Missouri Democrat said the CBC hadn’t yet made a formal declaration that the group would oppose it, “but this is a shady bill.”

“This deal trades people’s livelihoods for the votes of a few unappeasable right-wing radicals, and I will not support it,” ripped Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, before House Democrats had even been briefed. “The lesson today is that Republicans can hold their breath long enough to get what they want.”

UPDATE: That didn’t take long. There’s now a sugar-coated sandwich contest.

LIB CIVIL WAR – Progressives Pi$$ed After Dems Fold on Pilfering More Cash From US Taxpayers

Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, July 31, 2011, 6:12 PM

Progressives Are Pi$$ed!
Libs are outraged after the progressive democrats folded on revenue adjustments tax hikes pilfering more cash from the American taxpayer to fund their socialist agenda.
News Alert pointed to this rant today by liberal leader Jane Hamsher:

It is unquestionable that the Tea Party moved the entire debt ceiling deal to the right. How did they do it? By taking out the people who failed them. Arlen Specter. Charlie Crist. Lincoln Chaffee. The people they felt betrayed their principles. Even if you don’t agree with those principles, their consistent adherence to them got results.

Whenever the talk of a primary comes up, I always ask “who is going to do this?” The answer is always someone like Bernie Sanders or Jan Schakowsky, the same people whose job it is to put the Good Liberal Housekeeping Seal of Approval on whatever piece of neoliberal sh*t the White House cooks up to please the bond vigilantes. The people who suddenly become okay with war when the White House says so, who shake their fists in the air with outrage right before they fold, the people you can count on to always be there when there’s nothing they can do…and are nowhere to be found when they can.

Outrageous… Obama Has Top Admiral Tell Troops in Afghanistan They May Not Get Paid (Video)

Nice… Obama’s scaring the hell out of our troops.
Barack Obama had Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen fly to Afghanistan this weekend to tell the troops serving there that their families may not get paid if a debt agreement is not reached. Admiral Mullen was meeting with US troops serving in southern Afghanistan.

Obama plays politics with the troops serving in harm’s way.

For the record, there will enough money to pay the troops even if an agreement is not reached.

As Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, head of the Republican Study Group, said last week:
The government has more than enough money to make payments on its debts in August as well as take care of senior citizens and military servicemen.

Conservative star Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) ripped Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for the fantasy savings in his budget plan.

“Let’s pass a bill to cover the moon with yogurt that will cost $5 trillion today. and then let’s pass a bill the next day to cancel that bill. We could save $5 trillion.”

Paul Ryan was fired up. What a terrific performance.
Via Breitbart TV:

“We assume we’re going to be fighting this war for 10 more years, with over 100,000 troops in Afghanistan and oh, gosh, wait, we’re going to withdraw our troops in 2014. $1 trillion in savings. I’ve got a better idea. Let’s pass a bill to cover the moon with yogurt that will cost $5 trillion today. and then let’s pass a bill the next day to cancel that bill. We could save $5 trillion. Wait, I’ve got a better idea. Our debt is $14 trillion. Let’s come up with a new plan to spend $14 trillion, then rescind it the next day and let’s save $14 trillion. This stuff is fiscal fantasy. It Begins… Politico Calls Tea Party “Full-Blown Terrorists”

Posted by Jim Hoft on Friday, July 29, 2011, 2:43 PM

The democrats have added over One Trillion Dollars to the Federal Budget in the last 4 years.

That’s at least a 30% increase in federal spending in just 3 years.

Obama tripled the deficit his first year in office with the failed Obama-Pelosi stimulus plan.
In Obama’s second year the deficit topped a trillion dollars again.
It was unprecedented.

This year the Obama deficit may reach $1.29 trillion. (The Captain’s Comments)

But because conservatives want to cut spendig they’ve gone from being called “hostage takers” to “full blown terrorists.”
Nice.
The Politico reported:

It has become commonplace to call the tea party faction in the House “hostage takers.” But they have now become full-blown terrorists.

They have joined the villains of American history who have been sufficiently craven to inflict massive harm on innocent victims to achieve their political goals. A strong America has always stood firm in the face of terrorism. That tradition is in jeopardy, as Congress and President Barack Obama careen toward an uncertain outcome in the tea party- manufactured debt crisis.

As we stumble closer to Aug. 2, it has become clear that many in the tea party are willing to inflict massive harm on the American people to obtain their political objective of a severely shrunken federal government. Their persistence in rejecting compromise, even as the economic effects of the phony crisis they have created mount, has taken their radicalism beyond tough negotiating, beyond even hostage-taking.

Senate Republicans Give Speaker John Boehner a Standing Ovation

Posted by Jim Hoft on Friday, July 29, 2011, 2:17 PM

Love him or hate him, Speaker Boehner is the one out front taking all of the hits in the debt limit debate. Today Senate Republicans gave the conservative Speaker a standing ovation.
ABC News reported:

Speaker of the House John Boehner just quietly ventured over to the Senate side and dropped in on a closed lunch of Senate Republicans.

The lunch – pizza, again – was in the Strom Thurmond room.

I am told Boehner got a standing ovation from his Senate Republican colleagues.

That feel-good moment comes before a bigger test: Will Senate Republicans remain united in opposition to Harry Reid’s debt ceiling bill. If they do, we are left at a standstill – the House passing a bill that has no chance in the Senate; and Senate Democrats pushing a bill that can’t pass in the Senate either (and, maybe, the House, too)

Meanwhile… Top Congressional Democrats Complain Obama Is Not A Leader.

Harry Reid Cites John McCain in Statement Urging Compromise

Posted by Jim Hoft on Friday, July 29, 2011, 6:50 AM

Republican “hobbits” in the House wouldn’t listen to John McCain but Harry Reid quoted him today.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid delivered these remarks morning on the debt crisis facing the country. Reid has still not held a vote on his plan to increase the debt limit and bring down the debt. He included quotes from John McCain’s hobbit speech in his statement.
Via the National Journal:

M. President, although the House of Representatives has not yet voted on Speaker Boehner’s plan, it is clear that plan flawed.

That is why they have struggled for days to pass this flawed legislation without a single Democrat. They have plowed forward, looking only to Republicans.

But as with the battle to pass a Continuing Resolution and keep our government open for business a few months ago, the Republican leadership was unable to the votes with only Republicans. Speaker Boehner had to look to Democrats.

That’s how it’s supposed to work – Democrats and Republicans working together.

A Band-Aid approach to a world crisis is an embarrassment to Congress, to this country and to the world.

United Senate Democrats – all 53 of us – have informed the Speaker that his legislation was doomed in the Senate, because we would not vote for a short-term extension of the debt ceiling. It would put our great nation on the path to another default extravaganza in a few weeks…

…I have invited Sen. McConnell to sit down with me, and to negotiate in good faith knowing the clock is running down. I hope will accept my offer.

I know the Senate compromise bill Democrats have offered is not perfect in Republican’ eyes. Nor is it perfect for Democrats.

But together, we must make it work for all of us. It is the only option.

The settlement on the table will never give either party everything it wants. But it already meets the Republicans’ demands.

John McCain, the Republican senior senator from Arizona and President Obama’s opponent in the last presidential election, has asked his party to compromise.

It “is not fair to the American people, to hold out and say we won’t agree to raising the debt limit,” he said. He called the radical Republican approach “unfair” and “bizarro.”

“It’s time we listened to the markets,” he said. “It’s time we listened to the American people and sit down and seriously negotiate.”

And former Senator Fred Thompson, a Republican, asked members of his own party to come to their senses.

“I respectfully suggest that you rake in your chips [and] stuff them in your pockets,” Thompson urged Republicans.

I hope my friend, Sen. McConnell, will come to me by the end of the day and indicate what constructive ideas he has to move the process along.

My door is open. I will listen to any idea to get this done in a way that prevents a default and a dangerous downgrade to America’s credit rating…

Once again, John McCain gave the democrats plenty of ammo to lob back at Republicans.

John Kerry Calls Conservative House Republicans “Absolutists” And “Extremists”…

They are beating the “extremist” talking point to a bloody pulp.

(The Hill) — Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) slammed the conservative wing of the Republican Party as “a small group of absolutists” and “extremists” who are ignoring history “if they ever knew it.”

“You know, the Chinese are looking at us right now and they are just gleeful and incredulous at the way in which one of their great competitors is imploding in itself, and it’s happening because a small group of absolutists, of extremists, who don’t understand the implications even of what they’re doing, are prepared to hold the nation’s entire economy hostage,” Kerry said Friday on MSNBC.

“I mean they’re acting as if they think they’re the only ones that understand that America has a debt problem,” Kerry continued.

Kerry said conservative House Republicans were coming into debt-ceiling negotiations with a large amount of “absolutism.”

OBAMA HOLDS PRESSER- Urges Americans to Call Congress – Still Has No Plan – Stock Market Drops 6 Points

Posted by Jim Hoft on Friday, July 29, 2011, 6:14 AM

Barack Obama held a short press conference this morning to discuss the Republican’s debt plan. He still has no plan.

Look for Obama to do backflips explaining the latest GDP number.

UPDATE: The Tatler was not impressed with TOTUS’s performance:

How weak is President Obama? He called on the American people to call their congressman, again, as he did on Monday. That’s likely to backfire again, as Americans ended up calling to demand spending cuts, not just more of the same extreme spending that has become the new normal under Obama. The fact that he can’t persuade Congress himself answers Jon Stewart’s question in the affirmative: Yep, for all intents and purposes, Barack Obama has quit as a leader.

Harry Reid also spoke in the Senate this morning, and once again insulted Tea Party patriots as “extremists.” The Democrats are clearly using this impasse not to come up with real plans to deal with the nation’s spending problem, but to assault and insult the very Americans who have stood strongest against that problem. They’re engaged in a long-ball strategy to discredit the Tea Party and divide it from the GOP, believing that is their clearest route to holding onto power next year. Reid is a disgrace for using his position and the prestige of the Senate to make such rude comments. If the Democrats had a shred of dignity left they would replace him as their leader. But we all know that won’t happen, and why: Dingy Harry is a perfect reflection of their party.

The Dow Jones dropped 6 points while he was talking.

House Speaker John Boehner announced that there would be not debt vote tonight. The Republican leader could not get enough votes for his latest debt plan to pass.
FOX News reported:

House Republican leaders delayed a final vote on Speaker John Boehner’s deficit-reduction bill Thursday evening as Democrats warned the speaker that he was wasting his time.

Republican leaders said there will still be a vote on the controversial plan Thursday night but they needed more time to round up enough support.

Boehner, vowing to deliver the bill to the Senate, worked to corral the support of reluctant conservatives. The House first approved what’s known as the “rule” for the bill in a 238-186 vote, in a boost of confidence for the speaker.

Korean War Veteran Slams Obama For “Despicable” Fear-Mongering & Threatening to Take Away Social Security Checks

Korean War Veteran Devid Kern blasted President Obama for threatening to take away checks from veterans and seniors.

Obama summoned veterans groups to the White House this week to scare the daylights out of them.
WVNSTV reported, via Free Republic:

Leaders of veterans groups met with administration officials Tuesday to discuss what is at stake if Congress cannot come to a consensus.

President Obama has said that if a default occurs, the administration will be forced to prioritize who gets paid.

That means those receiving veterans benefits, social security, unemployment insurance, tuition grants, food stamps, and child care subsidies may be forced to compete for coverage.

“If that happens, and we default, we would not have enough money to pay all of our bills –bills that include monthly Social Security checks, veterans’ benefits, and the government contracts we’ve signed with thousands of businesses,” said the President.

Each day without a deal, veterans at the Raleigh County Commission on Aging worry whether their check will come in the mail next month.

“The fact that the President comes out and threatens to take away our social security checks and not pay the veterans is despicable,” said David Hern, a veteran fought in Korea.

Hern believes veterans who have seen the country through its darkest days will be left behind.

“The power will be shut off. A lot of them won’t be able to make their payments on their homes, their cars. Their credit will be destroyed because it will take months to get back on track. It will be a disaster,” said Hern.

All 53 Senate Democrats signed a letter tonight to House Speaker John Boehner saying essentially that they would rather the US default on its debt than pass the House GOP plan that would cut spending and force another vote next year.

Democrats would rather default on the debt they racked up than pass the Boehner plan.

New Tone: NY Times Columnist Says Tea Party Is Hezbollah Faction of GOP

Posted by Jim Hoft on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 11:01 PM

This must be part of that new tone of discourse we were promised…
Liberal fascist and far left columnist Thomas Friedman says the tea party is the Hezbollah faction of the Republican Party ready to take the GOP on a suicide mission.
The New York Times reported, via AP:

Alas, that is the Tea Party. It is so lacking in any aspiration for American greatness, so dominated by the narrowest visions for our country and so ignorant of the fact that it was not tax cuts that made America great but our unique public-private partnerships across the generations. If sane Republicans do not stand up to this Hezbollah faction in their midst, the Tea Party will take the G.O.P. on a suicide mission. No American politician was more allergic to debt or taxes than Thomas Jefferson, but he also appreciated the need to have the resources to make the Louisiana Purchase and insisted that on his tombstone it be written that he founded the University of Virginia.

Conservatives turn out to support Speaker Boehner.

(West Chester)

Hundreds of tea party protesters came out yesterday to support Speaker John Boehner in Ohio. The local leader Andrew Pappas told the media the rally was to let Boehner know fiscal conservatives locally and across the region are backing him fully during the high stakes debt negotiations.

West Chester posted photos.

Cincinnati.com reported:

It was a show of force in support of U.S. House Speaker John Boehner in the showdown over America’s debt ceiling and taxes.

Nearly 200 members of area Tea Party chapters rallied Monday afternoon at the local office of the nation’s highest ranking Republican.

Many came to hand letters and messages backing Boehner for his positions in recent weeks for resisting raising the nation’s debt limit without spending cuts and opposing tax hikes. More so than any other Congressional leader, Boehner has been the high profile face of opposition in negotiations with President Barack Obama.

Andrew Pappas, president of the Anderson Township Tea Party chapter, said the rally was to let Boehner know fiscal conservatives locally and across the region are backing him fully during the high stakes negotiations.

“I think the pressure on speaker Boehner is tremendous and this show of support may be just what he needs,” said Pappas. “And I think it is very important that speaker Boehner not just hear from the tea party, but from all of his constituents who think Washington has a spending problem not an income problem.”

No one is currently talking about tax hikes… except Barack Obama.
Everyone else has moved on.
Even CNN analyst Gloria Borger admitted today, “Only President Obama is fighting for higher taxes.”

The current, so-called ‘debt crisis’ has been completely manufactured by House Republicans attempting to advance an extremist agenda. This should be a simple vote to allow the US Treasury to fund all of the programs and obligations of the entire federal government that are already in the law,” said Rep. Lee in a statement handed out to reporters before a Democratic press conference on jobs at the Capitol.
